I finished Mass this evening and it's only just occurred to me. The increase in my flock recently is not just down to my recent zest for a punchy sermon. Oh no, not that alone. It's the disaster in the world recently! Who'd have thunk it.
I've spoken with colleagues and I'm not the only priest to experience this. (I had thought I was being cynical at first)
Apparently everyone is worried that they're going to die. Either of Bird Flu or some other "Act of God" Well I've got news for ya, we're all gonna die people. Might as well come into church while you're about it! All the twenty spots in the collection dish won't change a thing (with the exception of the cut of your priests suit) JK. ![]()

I've just set up my first blog- by following my nose - saw your comment amungst some others, being ex IT industry, my curiosity was roused, and was pleasantly surprised to see your picture ( not in THAT way ). I am now thinking of how I can connect the page to the man to the above text - not that it's of any earth shattering importance - just that I'm hearing what you say - about increased congregation sizes etc, but for want of a better way of putting it, I "wish" I didn't. There is fear at large in the world and the enemy has been able to cripple not just the Church with it. I just want to find the place where there's that "abundance of Joy" thing going on..... because you ARE right we ARE going to die but coming to church to bargain with the Lord is at best a dodgy deal.
When I grow up I'll be a little less twisted and a bit more joyful - praise God also for you being where you are and bringing "it" to the people.
